In terms of bang for the buck, Perforce is bested only by the open source Subversion, and its current offerings score compares favorably to that of solutions that cost nearly 10 times as much. Perforce customers are a very happy crew, reporting rapid implementation times, low administrative burdens, excellent support for geographically distributed development, and exceptionally high-quality support. Perforce has good core software configuration management (SCM) capabilities, but its change management capabilities and reporting capabilities are severely limited. For this reason, Perforce is best used in conjunction with a separate change management tool. Perforce's performance in our evaluation was hindered by the vendor's limited vision for the product. Responsiveness to customer enhancement requests is laudable, but it can't be the only ingredient in a long-term product strategy.
