Services Providers: Are You Ready For The New IT Ecosystem?

Principles For Succeeding In A Chaotic Market

by Julie Giera

with Eric G. Brown, Robert Muhlhausen

This is an excerpt

Executive Summary

By 2012, the dominant model for delivering technology to end user companies will be through services. As buyers shift from asset ownership to subscription models, intellectual property will be sourced from open communities, solutions will be crafted around process bundles and vertical industry requirements, and buyers will outsource stable operations to third-party providers. The resulting IT ecosystem structure will place those technology suppliers with the strongest delivery capabilities at the hubs. But in order to stay in the game, today's vendors and services providers will need to overcome their own inertia around the development and management of IP, their rigid engagement models, and dated partnering strategies. Some suppliers, like EDS, are making progress while others languish on the sidelines.
