This is an excerpt
Business processes play a central role in service-oriented architecture (SOA) and in many other places such as workflow. Today's business process management (BPM) suites are often service-oriented and offer one way to implement composite applications on SOA platforms. However, a deeper look at processes and SOA can be confusing, as processes appear at many levels in SOA applications and infrastructure and are implemented in many ways, such as controlling human workflow; automating long-running, cross-functional processes; or orchestrating usage of fine-grained services. No single approach to implementing business processes will meet all enterprise process requirements, so enterprises charting a course for processes and SOA need a coherent strategy that minimizes complexity and diversity, while also embracing new opportunities for flexibility presented by solutions such as BPM suites and SOA platforms.
