Executive Summary

In the Business Technographics® November 2005 North American And European Enterprise Software And Services Survey, Forrester surveyed 603 technology decision-makers and enterprises in North America to find out where they plan to invest their software and services budgets in 2006. Reducing software costs will be the top priority for companies (36%), followed by upgrading security environments (28%), and improving integration between applications (28%). Industry-specific applications represent the top application purchase, while security software will drive infrastructure and platform spending. Those companies that have adopted service-oriented architecture (SOA) will continue to invest in this technology. Open source will gain traction in large enterprises while software-as-a-service (SaaS) adoption remains stagnant.
