Executive Summary

Object-based archives, sometimes called content addressable storage, have been gaining attention as firms have begun to improve their long-term retention of electronic records in response to increased regulatory pressure like that from Sarbanes-Oxley. With the announcement of the IntelliStore Intelligent Archive, StorageTek will compete head-to-head with other object-based archiving platforms from vendors like Archivas, EMC, and Permabit. While IntelliStore may be technically superior to the competition — a side benefit of being late to market — it faces an uphill battle for customer mindshare that now belongs to EMC.
