Executive Summary

Today's competitive market puts incessant pressure on enterprises to keep their employees highly skilled and productive. In response, enterprises are beginning to tie eLearning to work activities, delivering both on-demand (embedded into applications) and just-in-time (learning a click away) learning, all within the context of business apps. In this integrated world of learning and work, training departments are increasingly accountable for preparing employees to be highly effective in their jobs. These departments need learning management systems (LMSes) that not only integrate learning with work but also capture and report performance metrics showing the impact of learning on employee achievements. Forward-thinking enterprises — especially those recruiting younger workers — are beginning to pilot informal learning delivered to the worker in new ways that have higher impact, such as blogs, wikis, and podcasts.
