Executive Summary

According to a November 2006 survey of 281 IT decision-makers, IT professionals with project management, security, and architecture skills will be targeted for recruiting in 2007. Change management, service management, and vendor management will be training priorities within enterprise IT. The more routine aspects of network management will be outsourced along with packaged app support and app maintenance. Industry differences will guide skills sourcing decisions, and interpersonal skills will be very important across the board in IT hiring decisions. As suggested by Forrester in 2005, the macro-trends in IT skill areas highlight the need for skills assessment to better address skill shortages and manage IT's talent pipeline.
