Not content to rest on its laurels as the dominant provider of enterprise networking gear, Cisco has launched multiple initiatives to extend its reach. Using its financial resources and M&A expertise and setting its vision on "the network as the platform," Cisco will push into collaboration, video distribution, the data center, Social Computing, and other markets. In these software-dominated arenas, it will face much stronger competition than the "seven dwarfs" of the network business.
