Forrester evaluated leading records management (RM) vendors across 135 criteria and found that CA MDY, Open Text, and IBM FileNet are leaders in this rapidly growing market. The three vendors stand out with strong frameworks for federated RM and flexible options for abstracting RM functionality into diverse user interfaces. IBM, Oracle-Stellent, and Open Text (formerly Hummingbird) are strong performers, but lack the business process capabilities that differentiate the leaders. EMC is a strong performer, but does not offer federated RM. TOWER Software, Meridio, and Interwoven are contenders, also lacking federated RM. Vignette is the only contender with federated RM, but lacks a holistic vision for its product. Oracle's Records DB — which the vendor is de-emphasizing in favor of Oracle-Stellent Universal Records Management — is a risky bet, suited only for the most basic RM projects.
