Executive Summary

Although webMethods is traditionally an integration vendor, it is seeking to establish itself as a major SOA player by restructuring its products in a modular fashion. For the SOA and Web services management space, this has the distinct advantage of allowing customers to buy a focused package of functionality without buying into the bulk of webMethods' composite application platform. Its solution for SOA management consists of two products, Servicenet and Optimize, that focus on IT-level and business-level management, respectively. As a new product, Servicenet has less depth than some other solutions, but webMethods' solution has good support for major vendors' identity management infrastructure and strong administrative tooling, and it fits well into webMethods' overall product set for composite applications.
