Virtualization is a powerful tool in the infrastructure and operations professional's IT consolidation arsenal. But how is it being wielded? According to a survey of 60 server infrastructure executives and managers at US enterprises, not all applications are candidates for virtualization to the same degree. While most applications are consolidation candidates, respondents were least interested in using virtualization with email and eCommerce servers. They showed more interest in portals, security applications, and databases and were most likely to virtualize Web and file servers and enterprise back-office applications.
