Executive Summary

The Asia Pacific region hosts a rapidly growing interactive design industry. Companies like Ford Motor Company, Hilton Hotels, Nestlé, and Nike are already tapping local agencies to design online solutions for a new class of users with different cultural perceptions and lifestyles. Our survey of 30 Web design agencies in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Thailand found that vendors are typically small in size and congregated around tech hubs. Although their Web design revenue is small, it is growing rapidly, fueled by work from Western companies in a wide range of industries. To choose the right offshore agency model, US and European companies should ask themselves three questions: 1) Do we have an existing relationship that we can leverage? 2) What is our strength of presence in the market? 3) Are we working with a very limited budget?
