Research Focus

A 10-year veteran at Forrester, Merv serves Vendor Strategy professionals. He works with strategists for global technology suppliers and consumers to leverage IT industry trends, changing marketplace dynamics, and execution strategies in technology marketing and sales. Merv's areas of direct technology coverage as an analyst have included data management, middleware, application architecture, packaged applications, and telecom & networking. He has provided guidance for an extensive list of clients including major technology vendors across hardware, software, and services. He launched and continues to contribute to Forrester's research coverage of industry analyst relations.

Previous Work Experience

Merv came to Forrester through its acquisition of Giga Information Group. He has more than 30 years of experience in IT, including six years with Giga as an analyst, research leader, and manager. He served as chairman or co-chair of the GigaWorld conference from 2000 to 2003. Previously, he held roles that included senior director of corporate marketing, director of marketing for data warehousing, and director of analyst relations at several software companies. Merv also founded and edited a technical journal for one of these firms.
In his earlier career, Merv taught technical training programs on language technologies and databases and spent a decade building systems in the securities, banking, and transportation industries in New York. In the mid-1980s, Merv was editor of the New York Personal Computer User Group magazine and has served on the board of advisors of the International Data Warehouse Association. His early analysis of the micro-to-mainframe market and its impact on decision support, The Workstation Data Link, was published by McGraw-Hill in 1988.

Education

Merv holds a B.A. in business administration with a concentration in finance from CUNY's Baruch College.
