Description

In the past, companies have failed to consider all the factors that impact outsourcing strategy. To overcome the poor strategic focus and sub-optimal outsourcing outcomes firms need a methodical approach to selecting the most efficient outsourcing scenario. Forrester has identified six basic outsourcing models, which fit almost all the outsourcing situations encountered at companies. Selecting the right model for a given enterprise requires evaluating and integrating fundamental parameters: the IT organization style, the IT archetype of the company, and the IT context (IT spending context, IT maturity level, and IT resource management). Unfortunately there is no simple "integration machine." Instead, Forrester suggests a pragmatic step-by-step approach: (1) IT group structural issues dictate the model pre-selection; (2) staff availability for new projects influences the model selection; and (3) IT context determines the implementation of the selected outsourcing model.
