Summary

Over the past two years the maturing of the program management office (PMO) as a strategic IT function has been accompanied by significant changes in the project management and portfolio management space. M&As are enabling vendors of project portfolio management tools to consolidate both project management and portfolio management tool capability into integrated software solutions. As part of research for a Forrester Wave of project portfolio management tools, Forrester conducted a combination of electronic surveys and customer interviews to understand the customer experience with PPM tools. The results of this survey are instructive to both end user companies that are developing plans for "tooling-up" their PMOs and for vendors that are targeting this market space.
