    Gary J. VonderHaar is Group Executive and Chief Technology Officer — Architecture for MasterCard Operations and Technology (O&T). In this role, he directs the MasterCard IT road map, ensuring that the company’s technology and operations capabilities align with business strategies through the art of business architecture. Mr. VonderHaar is responsible for leading enterprise architects, solution architects, platform maturity ownership, mergers and acquisitions, technology consulting, APM/TPM, ESB, and enterprise digital consumer platforms. Prior to this current position, he served as Group Executive, Enterprise Architecture.

    Mr. VonderHaar serves on the O&T operating committee as a champion of IT transformation; he collaborates with IT business partners, potential acquisitions, and key vendor partners critical to the success of MasterCard's computing infrastructure.

    Previously, Mr. VonderHaar served as Group Head, Emerging Platform Development within Global Systems Development. In this role, he managed the technology systems development for emerging and leading-edge technologies to deliver solutions for advanced payments, marketing and communications, global security, commercial web products, and advisors' Internet technology. Earlier in his career at MasterCard, Mr. VonderHaar led Internet Technology Services, focusing on establishing the first Internet delivery teams for MasterCard and helping create its first global digital strategy.

    Before joining MasterCard, Mr. VonderHaar was an associate partner at Accenture, where he worked for more than 13 years in the Consumer and Industrial Products Group, focusing on business and technology integration. He led engagements for a range of clients, managing strategic projects, dependencies, and relationships across client business units with multiple business sponsors.

    Early in his career, Mr. VonderHaar was a systems engineer and programmer in manufacturing and consumer product companies. As an engineer for McDonnell Douglas Defense Systems, he worked on the Strategic Defense Initiative “Star Wars” program for the Space Shuttle.

    Under his leadership, MasterCard’s enterprise architecture won the prestigious InfoWorld/Forrester Enterprise Architecture Award in 2013. Mr. VonderHaar graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in engineering management, electrical engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology.
