Why Read This
This report outlines the role of business strategy in Forrester's solution for application development and delivery (AD&D) professionals working on business applications strategy. Large firms are imperiled by apps strategies created in a vacuum; either users make various point solution choices, leaving technology management colleagues to resolve master data and process integrity challenges, or tech management makes a "strategic" vendor choice that frustrates business leaders. The problem is compounded by the ambiguous or tentative nature of competitive postures that must retain the ability to somersault into new markets or morph to meet the challenge of digital disruption. Use this report to derive the rules for developing, upgrading, and maintaining an apps portfolio that will meet the demands of changing business imperatives. This report was originally published in August 2012; Forrester reviews and updates it periodically for continued relevance and accuracy, found that only light changes were needed, and updated it accordingly as of November 2014.
