Why Read This
Recently, two major platform vendors announced acquisitions of security testing vendors: IBM announced its intent to acquire Watchfire on June 6, 2007, and HP announced its intent to acquire SPI Dynamics on June 19, 2007. In both cases, the platform vendors aim to integrate security testing with their existing software testing solutions. This is a sign of the industry's attempt to broaden the definition of software quality to include security, as a response to growing concerns about application security issues. But will this approach take hold? It depends on whether these tools find appropriate end users, be they testers, developers, or security professionals.
