Summary

Forrester's annual report on US IT spending benchmarks has been one of our most popular and eagerly awaited documents each year. We first offer CIO-based data and analysis on the whys and hows of IT benchmarking and the impact of cash-outlay-based IT accounting versus income-statement-based IT accounting. This year, we also provide three types of IT benchmarks: 1) good benchmarks for enterprises by industry, based on both Forrester Business Data Services surveys and InformationWeek 500 (IW 500) surveys; 2) better benchmarks for six sizes of companies by industry, based on Forrester Business Data Services; and 3) best benchmarks for six sizes of companies by industry, with Forrester adjustments to normalize the survey data. And we provide updated recommendations on how to use the IT benchmark data constructively to improve the performance and standing of IT.
