Not All EA Management Suites Vendors Are Equal

Enterprise architecture (EA) scope has expanded as the EA discipline and practices have matured. Where once EA practitioners needed tools purely to model their organization's current and future landscape, they are now involved in diverse areas such as strategic planning, portfolio planning, and execution and management of the organization's architecture. Enterprise architects now need a more enhanced toolkit.

The expanded scope of EA has attracted interest from a number of non-EAMS vendors. We are seeing strategic planning tools — which previously focused on strategy development – moving into the portfolio planning and traditional EA space. We also see portfolio management vendors — which previously focused on project and financial portfolios — moving into the strategy planning and EA space. EAMS vendors have also reacted to this opportunity to move into strategy development and/or portfolio management.
