Summary

Putting senior managers in place to lead content and collaboration initiatives for their organizations is a growing imperative. Our ongoing work with Forrester clients indicates that the skills mix required to deliver and scale up enterprisewide workplace solutions, like enterprise social tools, infrastructure for engaging Web experiences, and content management, is changing. Raw technology skills are of lesser importance than they once were. Now the ability to influence stakeholders across IT, legal, communications, marketing, and HR is of utmost importance. In partnership with KMWorld, Forrester recently surveyed 224 professionals engaged in these initiatives. Their goal — supporting anywhere, anytime access to information and expertise — remains unchanged. But the people making these objectives happen are now highly compensated managers leading cross-functional teams, particularly in sectors like technology and telecommunications, financial services, government, and business/professional services. This report looks at the current state, barriers to success, and future role of these professionals.
