Summary

According to Forrester's Forrsights Hardware Survey, Q3 2013, 29% of organizations have either deployed or plan to deploy Windows 8 within their traditional endpoint (laptop/desktop) environments. In addition, according to our Forrsights Devices And Security Workforce Survey, Q2 2013, 14% of information workers prefer Windows 8 for their next tablet. As IT organizations consider and prepare for the deployment of Windows 8 (and the recently released 8.1), security professionals need to understand its security improvements and enhancements, and, more importantly, how it will affect their strategy and investments in third-party endpoint security solutions. In this report, we examine Windows 8.1 security features and discuss where third-party solutions can help bolster native security capabilities in the operating system.
