Summary

The Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN), a nonprofit organization, has been working on semantic specifications of business services for the banking industry for a couple of years. Just recently, BIAN made the latest release of its service landscape — Service Landscape 2.5 — publicly available. This version covers about one-third of the service domains necessary to support the business of a bank with a broader business setup. BIAN intends to release the first complete version of its service landscape at the beginning of 2015. To help application development and delivery teams make the best use of available BIAN deliverables, this report looks at the structure of the BIAN Service Landscape and supporting tools, provides analysis on how the BIAN Service Landscape will influence the way banks will deliver their banking applications in the future, and offers tactical and strategic recommendations on how to start working with BIAN and its deliverables.
