On April 28th, IBM made a series of announcements that began bringing together its big data and cloud strategies. As firms plan to meet age-of-the-customer demands for agility and cost effective big data solutions, IBM's moves make sense. But how is it executing? We examined IBM's announcements in detail, logged on to its cloud developer portal, and looked at its services. We found that while IBM has industry leading big data software, its cloud implementation is in its very early stages, and IBM's big data services were extensive but still just for play.
