Summary

Software development is changing rapidly; firms must use this to their advantage to avoid falling behind. The Forrsights Developer Survey, Q1 2013 shows that mobile development is among the hottest topics in the industry, but developers are still focusing most of their attention on traditional technologies like Microsoft Windows 7, web applications, and SQL-centric applications. Web technologies like HTML and JavaScript lead the way in platform and language adoption, but traditional static languages like Java, C/C++, and C# are still strongly represented. New technologies like mobile and cloud are gaining traction, but developer adoption of formal methodologies and advanced development practices still lags, especially when it comes to DevOps, Lean, and continuous delivery.
