Summary

With 341 deals closed and tracked spending of almost €21 billion, 2007 showed a very different picture to 2006. Deal activity forged ahead — 2006 was good for 304 deals — but the overall spend in 2007 lagged by around €9 billion compared with 2006. Infrastructure services extended its leading position, and help desk and support services deal numbers leaped up in 2007. BPO and offshore services lagged in terms of growth but stabilized their share of deal activity. Manufacturers were most active in closing outsourcing deals, but financial services and insurance firms put most money on the table. UK firms showed less activity than last year, but still drove around 50% of the total IT outsourcing spend. Preferred deal lengths became a little bit shorter, although the five-year deal length continued to increase in popularity. IBM Global Services regained its status as the most successful IT outsourcing provider across the EMEA region.
