Summary

Motivated by the explosion of third-party infrastructure, technology platform alternatives, and the growing popularity of cloud services, many organizations want to get out of the data center business and are increasingly seeking to shrink their in-house footprints and leverage more external services. In the past, these initiatives were driven by the promise of cost reduction and increased efficiencies. But as the focus turns to a BT agenda aimed at delighting customers with systems of engagement, more organizations are starting to realize the benefits of cloud computing, which can enhance the speed and agility of core infrastructure properties. While the cloud will not make sense for all workloads, infrastructure and operations (I&O) professionals have an abundance of alternatives from which to choose. This report provides clarity and context on these various infrastructure sourcing options, which extend beyond traditional in-house solutions to help I&O professionals rightsource infrastructure and applications, balancing cost with performance and efficiency to deliver the best customer experience.
