Summary

Every enterprise makes business, risk, and budget tradeoffs when deciding which client security technologies to use. Adoption patterns differ significantly, depending on whether an enterprise has deep pockets or more limited resources. Our HeatWave analysis shows that enterprises with the highest budgets are interested in adopting file-level and full disk encryption, network-based data leak prevention (DLP) tools, and host firewalls. Those with more limited funds are interested in encryption tools as well but are coming from a much lower installed base. Going forward, Forrester expects that durable trends will continue to drive adoption of endpoint data protection technologies such as DLP and encryption. At the lower end of the market, the good-enough data protection technologies in Windows 7 will blunt the appeal of aftermarket products.
