Summary

The issue of application security is increasingly important for security professionals in today's ever-evolving application vulnerability landscape. But Forrester's data shows a clear disconnect between perceived importance of application security and the willingness to tackle the problem. Between July 2007 and June 2008 Forrester's IT security and risk management team fielded 1,798 inquiries on a variety of security-related topics — 83 of them were specifically focused on application security from end user IT professionals. The most common topics among the application security inquiries focused on vendor selection, application scanning technologies, and the market landscape and trends. While these topics cover only part of the application security space, they highlight what is on the minds of security professionals everywhere.
