Summary

Implementing strong business technology (BT) governance is on the agenda for many organizations as they continue the seemingly endless pursuits of aligning IT and business strategy, getting more value from their IT investments, and managing risk within acceptable levels. Developing a framework, creating decision structures, and deploying governance processes are a good start, but they're not enough. Organizations must close the loop by measuring the business outcomes that result from their governance practices, identifying and holding people accountable, and communicating performance to stakeholders. This report explains how to use the Balanced Scorecard framework for this purpose, suggests potential governance metrics to use, and presents a sample BT governance Balanced Scorecard.
