On June 4, the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) disclosed a cybersecurity incident affecting at least 4 million individuals, whose personally identifiable information (PII) may have been compromised. This intrusion is just one of many breaches that US federal agencies have experienced since the humiliating Edward Snowden National Security Agency (NSA) leak in June 2013. US Federal agencies have been under a sustained cybersiege since that time. The breach of OPM is particularly alarming given that OPM is effectively the human resources department for the federal government and also handles security clearances.
