Quick Take: CIOs Must Respond To Amazon's Disruptive Cloud

Amazon's Relentless Pace Continues At re:Invent With Nine New Services

November 14, 2014

Why Read This Brief

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) re:Invent 2014 conference is something of an understatement as far as names go. This year's AWS conference was bigger than ever, with more than 13,500 attendees from 63 countries. As CIOs and other technology management leaders pursue their BT agendas, they should consider AWS as a key partner in that agenda. Amazon's reinvention of modern application infrastructure is hard to overestimate. This week, Amazon's AWS unit announced a number of new services that will reinvent your team's code release process, service catalog, configuration management database (CMDB), configuration event tracking, security and compliance processes, database, analytics, and real-time event processing. In the process, Amazon is defining critical services that will drive the aggregation and delivery tiers of a modern engagement architecture. CIOs must factor Amazon into their BT agenda, if for no other reason than to benchmark cloud competitors and their own application delivery and data center management capabilities.
