Why Read This Brief

After a year of waiting, and much speculation, on December 15, the EU Commission, European Parliament, and Council of Ministers of the European Union finally agreed on the shared text of the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It's not law just yet. In the coming months, the EU Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and Parliament must approve the bill, but we expect it to pass. Firms will have just two years to become compliant with the new rules. Based on our experiences, firms will have a lot to do. In this Quick Take, we outline the major changes to the GDPR to prepare security and risk (S&R) pros for the tough road ahead.
