Quick Take: Impressions From Mobile World Congress 2014

March 6, 2014

Why Read This Brief

This year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona brought together 80,000 attendees. The event is both the world's largest exhibition for the mobile industry and a conference featuring top speakers from telcos, device manufacturers, software and Internet firms, network vendors, and content owners. It arguably remains the most important global get-together for those keen to investigate "all things mobile." Clearly, MWC sent out different messages to attendees with increasingly diverse profiles. While phones and telecom equipment continue to figure prominently, the diversity of exhibitors, exhibits, and speakers illustrates the influence of mobile connectivity across industries and devices. This report illustrates that shift across four major themes: 1) consumer devices and smartphone OS evolution; 2) enterprise mobility; 3) public sector and smart city mobility; and 4) the connected business.
