Summary

This report outlines the results of the fifth annual joint survey conducted by Forrester Research and ARMA International on records management (RM) trends. RM decision-makers have reported consistent year-over-year ambitions to increase their deployment of RM applications, yet they struggle to demonstrate mastery over budgets, storage issues, and skills development. Reluctance to investigate cloud or software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based records management applications puts RM professionals at odds with their IT peers, who have actively embraced cloud providers for compliance-driven message or information archiving platforms. Confidence in demonstrating the accuracy, accessibility, and trustworthiness of an organization's electronically stored information (ESI) remains low. Enterprise architects must take a stronger role in guiding their records and information management peers as RM software acquisition is planned and deployed.
