Summary

Attention in the telecom community for the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) has been hard to ignore over the past few years. Service providers wanting new revenues from services at a reduced cost look to an IMS framework to help them. Forrester tracks IMS deals yearly to help our clients understand how IMS affects the value chain of service providers, IT vendors, equipment manufacturers, and systems integrators. This report summarizes results from Forrester's IMS activity tracker covering publicly available and self-reported IMS activities from IMS vendors in North America, Western and Eastern Europe, and Asia Pacific during 2007, with qualitative insight into 2008 year-to-date initiatives. The results? IMS activities are slowing in some regions such as North America, but they are gaining momentum in the emerging markets of Eastern Europe and Asia Pacific — IMS equipment providers should take notice of these growth markets.
