Why Read This Brief

In 2012, Forrester's "smart body, smart world" report asserted that sensor-laden embedded devices would be the next big thing among technology trends. Since then, we've witnessed the adoption trajectory of early "smart" products like Jawbone, Nike+, and other fitness-oriented wearable devices. Now, with the recent launch of Google Glass and the Samsung smartwatch and the announcement of the Apple Watch, wearables are beginning to move beyond personal health management. Wearables are poised to change the way in which consumers shop, manage their finances, capture information, share data, and more. As with any product that's new to the market, we expect to see an adoption curve fueled by consumer needs, motivations, desires, and expectations. This report leverages our Technographics360 multimethod research approach to evaluate the key drivers that most strongly predict consumer interest in wearable devices.
