In an agile product development process, organizations conduct release planning to determine what is desired and can likely be delivered as part of the product’s next release. The results of this planning exercise should be captured in a release plan that documents the output of the agile release planning exercise and provides clarity on the release’s goals, intentions, purpose, and priorities. In this report, we describe the purpose of the release plan and provide a template that can be used to capture the results of the release planning exercise to help ensure agile teams make decisions that support the overall objectives.
