Summary

The shift to SaaS is the leading agent of change in applications adoption as companies seek better flexibility and speed. Results from our Forrsights Software Survey, Q4 2013, reveal significant investment activity in packaged applications in general, but software-as-a-service (SaaS) is the leading factor driving system replacements and net new investments in applications. SaaS adoption to date has mostly been focused on four segments: human resource management (HRM), customer relationship management (CRM), collaboration software (e.g., email), and procurement solutions, but investment plans for 2014 reveal a significantly increased appetite for SaaS in a broad range of areas, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), finance, and business intelligence. This report helps application development and delivery (AD&D) professionals understand the drivers for SaaS adoption and how adoption trends may impact future plans to replace or upgrade current applications.
