Summary

The first products offering compatibility between the rival Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats were announced at CES last week. Two very different approaches offer solutions from both ends of the value chain: Create a dual-format disc or a dual-format home player. Ultimately, this is good news for consumers and content owners — but it will cause a muddle for retailers and competing consumer electronics (CE) companies.
