Forrester applied its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) methodology to the four middleware megavendors in September 2009: IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP. We now turn our attention in this analysis to the megavendor challengers: Cordys, Progress Software, Red Hat, Software AG, and TIBCO. All of these companies are big enough to offer a full stack or portfolio of middleware components that add up to a business process platform, including integration and business process management capabilities. This SWOT report unveils the fit of these software platforms to the needs of systems integrators (SIs) and independent software vendors (ISVs) as a strategic selection tool. Finally, we describe our expected market evolution and predict the growth potential from those middleware vendors stimulated by cloud computing.
