One of the keys to success in establishing managed outcome relationships is to contract for them successfully using elements of the relevant toolset such as the statement of work (SOW) and the master services agreement (MSA). In practice, the two document types are complementary in applications outsourcing, and the contents of one versus the other is sometimes a matter of individual preference and practice. In this list, we consider only those elements of the SOW/MSA that are effected by the managed outcome approach in which both a defined outcome and fixed pricing are combined, as opposed to requirements for more straightforward staff augmentation transactions. Similarly we focus on those items of significance specifically to managed outcomes, not more general terms and conditions such as confidentiality, indemnity and so on.
