Summary

Much has been written and debated about the rising popularity of bring-your-own-device (BYOD) throughout the world. Whereas BYOD policies in North America have become more mature, the subject of BYOD continues to cause many headaches for European companies. For European sourcing professionals, there is good news and bad news about BYOD. The bad news is that, contrary to popular opinion, BYOD programs raise challenges and probably will not save you money. The good news is that there are viable alternative options for those willing to invest and to proactively drive them forward. The options include choose your own device (CYOD), where the company supports a list of popular devices, and "horses for courses," which is the concept of choosing the right set of applications and devices for specific roles. This report provides an analysis of the real challenges and opportunities for BYOD in Europe. Our findings are based on the Forrester Forrsights Telecom And Mobility Workforce Survey, Q2 2013, coupled with exploratory research interviews conducted with IT departments, human resources (HR) professionals, and workforce professionals.
