Interest in data- and content-related technology continues to increase. Meanwhile, enterprise architecture (EA) teams have begun ramping up information architecture (IA) practices to address this long-neglected area of EA. But the gap between the accelerating technology trends and the snail's pace of most information architecture practices is setting the stage for a capability mismatch: Advanced data and content technologies will require a foundation of coherent information architecture that simply does not exist in most organizations. It is incumbent on enterprise architects to prioritize the IA aspects of their EA programs to clear the way for the enhanced business capabilities that the technologies on 2010's shopping lists promise.
