Summary

While the brutal enterprise resource planning (ERP) vendor consolidation frenzy has not completely run its course, innovation has begun to re-emerge. Customers are demanding better usability, easier access to information, more flexibility, and lower cost of ownership. Two of the key innovators are technology titans SAP and Microsoft, which focus on creating differentiation in configurability and usability, respectively. Oracle and Infor are forces of stability rather than innovation, focusing on growth by acquisition and customer retention. Midmarket positioning and vertical specialization will continue to play out as this $30 billion overall market continues to grow at a 7% rate through 2011.
