The global tablet installed base will approach 1 billion devices by 2018, nearly tripling from its current level. While consumer-owned tablets will represent the vast majority of those in use, the business-owned share of the installed base will rise by nearly double-digit percentage points in the next five years (This excludes “bring your own device,” or BYOD programs, which are considered employee-owned.). Tablet sales will also shift increasingly from new to replacement devices, with the latter overtaking total new tablet sales globally in 2016. The forecast further explores the shift in consumer tablet owner demographics by country, illustrating growing ownership rates among older age groups and lower-income users.
