The world's economic woes present new opportunities for innovative forms of learning using technology that many organizations already have: informal learning, eLearning, and blended learning. Shrinking budgets make learning through technology very attractive. Why? Strong employee knowledge and skills remain key factors in enhancing a company's ability to compete. If organizations can get people up to speed faster without travel costs and losses in productivity, it's a win/win. I&KM pros should encourage learning and development leaders to exploit the capabilities of content development tools in their technology "toolbox," introduce low-cost employee-driven learning, and redefine the roles of their internal trainers.
