Summary

Over the past 12-18 months, IBM has steadily refined its strategy and messaging for its software business, within the context of its broader Smarter Planet initiatives. Key to IBM's strategy is the delivery of more integrated hardware and software solutions, hence the merging of these formerly separate divisions in July 2010. While certainly challenging to execute, Springboard Research believes IBM's strategy reflects broader industry trends and will ultimately lead to greater value delivery to IBM customers.
