Summary

From the point of view of an IT asset, sourcing and fulfillment is a one-time activity that marks the beginning of its life cycle in an organization. In the best case, the asset will serve a long and fruitful life and eventually be removed from the organization in another one-time activity — asset disposal. In the worst case, technical, manufacturing, or user errors will force the asset to be removed from the organization much sooner and possibly at significant expense to the organization. The function of IT asset management (ITAM), as it impacts IT asset sourcing and fulfillment, is to minimize the possibility of these worse case instances occurring and the impact they may have. This report will help firms get a better perspective on whether their current ITAM and IT asset sourcing and fulfillment practices and systems are effectively integrated to realize cost reductions and productivity gains.
