Summary

A growing number of public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) clouds are coming to market that share the same underlying capabilities, technologies, and interfaces. Rather than build their clouds independently, providers are basing them on a cloud platform that speeds their time-to-market and provides consistency with other public clouds (and potentially your own private cloud). The underlying platform can also turn a single service provider into a network of providers that can give you greater geographic reach, deployment options, and capabilities than any of these service providers could on their own. But not all IaaS platforms are equal. This report takes a look at a collection of leading cloud platforms and the breadth of capabilities and market reach they have and may potentially have in the coming years. Infrastructure and operations (I&O) professionals are encouraged to use this report to compare available options but should note that breadth of capability may not equal leadership.
